Pip’s greatest desire is to learn how to be a gentleman from Miss Havisham and Estella. Two men are about to be hanged as he begins to learn the ways of the world, but lawyer Mr Jaggers blackmails the judge into pardoning his client. Back at home, Mr Pumblechook declares that Pip should continue his education with Miss Havisham – and that he should be compensated handsomely for it. Pip enlists Biddy’s assistance, offering to pay her with his allowance, but she declines.
