Murder in the Woods
Season 9, Episode 1
24 Hours in Police Custody, the BAFTA-nominated series, returns with two gripping episodes that take viewers behind the scenes of police investigation into the pre-mediated and brutal murder of a young man. Detective Chief Inspector Adam Gallop is convinced that man, who died from vicious stab wounds to his neck, was frogmarched into middle of the woods at Hinchingbrooke Country Park in Cambridgeshire before being assassinated. He has discovered that the victim’s closest friends are part of a network of cannabis dealers in Huntingdon, of which the police have no previous knowledge. He believes he knows who was behind the murder but with no witnesses to the crime he has very little evidence to build a case. Cameras follow the twists and turns of the investigation as detectives decide to arrest the victim’s friends in the hope that in interview, they will reveal what really happened and why someone wanted him dead. This is the real-life drama of the police’s search for justice for a grieving family where the reality of what happened turns out to be more compelling than fiction.

About 24 Hours in Police Custody

`24 Hours in Police Custody’ shows the challenges faced by staff members at the busy Luton Police Station, bringing viewers access that was previously not widely available. More than 80 cameras follow the Bedfordshire police, from the station’s holding cells to the heart of major crime investigations and interrogation rooms. The programme follows the officers as they respond to calls, arrest suspects and try to get enough evidence to charge the suspected perp. They’ll have to get it all done quickly because the law only allows police to keep prisoners against their will for up to 24 hours before being charged.

This show is broadcast on Channel 4.
