Reeves was shot and killed, while Smith suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head, barely managing to survive.

When longtime friend and EMT Dennis Hobson arrived on the scene, he found Smith on the brink of death in a blood-soaked kitchen, while Reeves was discovered dead in the living room. The absence of a weapon at the scene led investigators to believe that there had to be an intruder responsible for the horrific attack.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives sought to determine what Smith could remember about the shooting. However, he spent weeks in a medically induced coma and, upon regaining consciousness two months later, he was unable to recall any details about that fateful Thanksgiving night or his time with Reeves. “I wish to God I could remember something … even just a smidgen, but I remember nothing,” he expressed in an exclusive interview with Moriarty.

Authorities soon focused their investigation on Reeves’ ex-boyfriend, Robert Tarr, whom they believed had followed her that night and broken into Smith’s home. Tarr was ultimately convicted of Reeves’ murder and the attempted murder of Smith.
