The North West Ambulance Service is starting a new 12-hour schedule on Thursday, and junior doctors throughout the NHS are on strike. With hundreds of hospital appointments and non-urgent operations cancelled, the ambulance control centre is nervously anticipating what the shift might bring. The ambulance service has the ability to prioritise specific cases, so when an urgent 999 call is received for an accident on a major road, senior paramedic Aiden is despatched right away.
