BBC Proms "Last Night of the Proms - Part 1" 10 September 2022: Saturday on BBC Two 11

The Proms season heads towards the finishing line in this BBC centenary year with a blockbuster celebration at the Royal Albert Hall. Superstar cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Norweigan soprano Lise Davidsen join the BBC Symphony Orchestra and conductor Dalia Stasevska in a lively mix of party pieces and lesser known works, with a dash of the new.

Presented by Katie Derham with Robert Rinder and other special guests, this first half of the night’s celebrations features music by Verdi, Coleridge-Taylor, Wagner and Grieg, as well as the rarely performed Snofrid by Sibelius, a theatrical work which sees leading actor Dame Harriet Walter take to the stage. There’s the world premiere of a new work by rising star James B Wilson, specially commissioned to commemorate the centenary of the BBC, and the whole night kicks off with a bracing overture by Poland’s ‘first lady of music’, Grazyna Bacewicz.

The concert continues on BBC One.
