How to Spend It Well at Christmas With Phillip Schofield – 15 December 2020 – 15/12/2020 – Tuesday – ITV

Episode 3

The third and final episode is all about food and drink, as Phillip and his team of experts find the shops and supermarkets selling luxury festive treats that don’t break the bank. They range from this year’s must-have canapés to turkey alternatives for the big day, as well as cocktails to get you in the Christmas spirit and gifts for the food lover in everyone’s life.

A group of frontline workers blind taste tests the best luxury canapés from supermarkets to discover which ones top the table.

Phillip meets journalist and food critic Grace Dent to see if they can taste the difference between high end and supermarket luxury own brand bites.

Many people will be spending more time at home this festive season, and gifts that involve making and baking could be attractive options. The Great British Bake Off’s Briony May Williams meets four groups of friends and families to test different gingerbread kits in a ‘make off’ battle.

The ladies from The Only Way Is Essex bring some Christmas cheer as they discover whether when it comes to Christmas cocktails, it is worth spending big on spirits or if own-brand versions do just as good a job.

Turkey is traditionally served as the main meat with Christmas dinners, but with changing tastes and more options on offer, the team puts four alternatives – two meat, a fish and a vegetarian option – from a quartet of supermarkets to the test to see what might grace viewers’ dining tables this year.

Meanwhile, Phillip meets chef Matt Tebbutt to find out which Christmas hamper represents the best value for money.

Matt also provides his top time saving tips when it comes to preparing Christmas dinner with the aim of spending less time cooking, and more time having fun.

Finally, Phillip asks if viewers have to splash the cash to make their festive dining tables look beautiful – and ropes in interiors expert Laura Jackson to help.
