Zara McDermott learns that Gaia’s alleged assailant contacted her ten months before she disappeared. According to her older sister Clara, the texts were ‘inherently menacing’ and precipitated a mental health crisis. Gaia spiralled after her attempts to obtain a restraining order were denied. Gaia was hospitalised within a month of receiving the texts, sectioned under the Mental Health Act for her own protection.
