Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are back online after a worldwide outage Monday impacting billions of users. Meantime, the company is under fire on Capitol Hill with a whistleblower who says Facebook puts profit ahead of people set to testify Tuesday. NBC’s Hallie Jackson reports for TODAY from Washington.

National Women’s Soccer League players Mana Shim and Sinead Farrelly join TODAY exclusively along with former national team captain Alex Morgan to talk about the sexual abuse scandal roiling the league. “The support and validation of the story by everyone globally … really has felt like it has given my pain purpose,” Farrelly says. Of coach Paul Riley, Shim says, “He’s a predator. He sexually harassed me.” Morgan talks about the league’s “systemic failure.”

On Tuesday morning, Johnson & Johnson applied to the FDA for emergency use authorization for a booster shot. Meantime, there are encouraging signs in the battle against the coronavirus, but Dr. Anthony Fauci warns now is not the time to become complacent as he clarifies a remark about the holiday season. NBC’s Kerry Sanders reports for TODAY from Hollywood, Florida.

The battle is intensifying over President Biden’s economic agenda as Democrats struggle to get on the same page. Meantime, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is firing back at activists who confronted her in a bathroom. NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell reports for TODAY from the White House.

After a record 40 consecutive Powerball drawings without a grand prize winner, a single ticket in Monday night’s drawing matched all six numbers for a jackpot worth almost $700 million. NBC’s Steve Patterson reports for TODAY from Los Angeles.
