Millions of parents and teachers across the U.S. are waiting anxiously for government regulators to decide if the Pfizer vaccine is safe for kids 5 to 11. An FDA advisory panel is set to meet in just over two weeks to consider Pfizer’s application. NBC’s Gabe Gutierrez reports for TODAY from New York City.

Joining TODAY to comment on the FDA reviewing authorization of Pfizer’s vaccine for children 5-11, Dr. Richard Besser, former acting head of the CDC, says he’s “cautiously optimistic” about it. “This could change the trajectory for some families” going into the holidays, he says: “This winter could be a lot different than the last few months have been.”

New details about former President Trump’s efforts to undo the 2020 election are emerging from the Congressional investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol. Former aides to the then-president ignored House subpoenas at the direction of Trump himself. NBC senior Washington correspondent Hallie Jackson reports for TODAY.

The U.S. Navy says one of its attack submarines struck an unknown object while submerged in the South China Sea. Nearly a dozen sailors were hurt, but they’re all expected to be OK.

Law enforcement officials returned Thursday to the Florida wildlife refuge where much of the search for the missing fiancé of Gabby Petito has been focused. Brian Laundrie’s father Chris reportedly showed authorities his son’s favorite trails and spots.

Why have thousands of Haitian migrants been coming to the United States? To find out, NBC’s Jacob Soboroff traveled to the poverty-stricken nation, where there is uncertainty and danger in the wake of a presidential assassination and a massive earthquake.

Experts say that if you’re thinking about flying to see family and friends during the holidays, you’d better start planning now – and anticipate spending more to do it. NBC’s Anne Thompson reports for TODAY from New York’s LaGuardia Airport on the early start to the holiday travel rush.

Right now, gas prices are the highest they’ve been in seven years. The national average is about $3.25 a gallon, a dollar higher than a year ago, and in some parts of the country like California, drivers are paying more than $5 a gallon.

During a pottery class for a recent “Buddy Up” segment on the 3rd Hour of TODAY, Al Roker surprised Craig Melvin by re-creating an iconic scene from “Ghost.” The movie moment has been immortalized in both Us Weekly and Closer magazine.

The 3rd Hour of TODAY shares the happy news that Dylan Dreyer and her new baby, Russell James Fichera, are home. Dylan posted Instagram photos of baby Rusty, including him wearing his tiny graduation cap after leaving the NICU.
