In October 2023, Jessy Kurczewski faced trial for the alleged intentional homicide of Lynn Hernan, alongside two counts of felony theft. Kurczewski had been accused of poisoning Hernan, her friend, with eye drops. Five years prior, Kurczewski had discovered Hernan dead in her Pewaukee, Wis., condo, where she had been providing care for her friend who was struggling with health issues.

Stephanie Rodriguez, who covered the trial for the CBS affiliate in Milwaukee, described Kurczewski’s relationship with Hernan as close, akin to that of an adopted daughter. Anthony Pozza, another friend of Hernan’s, noted her frustration with ongoing health problems, despite multiple doctor visits.
