The Savoy – 7 October 2020 – 7/10/2020 – Wednesday – ITV

It’s Valentine’s week at the Savoy and the hotel is preparing for one of the busiest and most profitable days of the year.

Restaurant Director Thierry is still reeling from owner Gordon Ramsay’s visit to the Grill: “We made silly mistakes and this does make me upset. We got a big bollocking from him, but rightly so. He has his name above the door.”

But Thierry gets to work re-training his front of house staff and looking at how he can improve his already high standards – but first he has to ensure that his customers enjoy the most romantic night of the year at the restaurant.

Downstairs in the florists, boss Belinda and junior florist MaryKate, get to work with £20,000 worth of flowers, which will be decorated across the hotel throughout the week. They also prepare 500 single red roses and £1000 bouquets.

Senior florist Belinda says: “It’s the most unromantic day for us. I mean you think of some of the customers we have, you get guys sending flowers to their wives and their three girlfriends!”

Guests Sarah and Jason Sprenger arrive for a romantic weekend away from their children, with the added celebration of their 21st wedding anniversary. They are staying in one of the Butler suites at a cost of over £3000.

Head butler Sean and his team are rushed off their feet preparing the 38 suites with romantic rose petal turndowns, as the Sprengers and other regulars including Simon De-Lacy and his husband enjoy their romantic weekends.

Sean says: “Valentines’ is a big time to show off all our wares, to show our romantic building off, I want to bring out the romantic side of all the butlers…We have to create moments for people. Moments will turn into memories, maybe turn into a wedding, that they will have in the Savoy in the future.”

With all four restaurants fully booked, in the Thames Foyer restaurant, young romantic Josh has a surprise in store for his girlfriend Sarah, with afternoon tea followed by a luxurious proposal in one of the finest Savoy suites overlooking the Thames.

Thames Foyer restaurant manager Athina is promoted to manager of Simpsons restaurant – leaving afternoon teas behind her to take over from her best friend Anne, who was the first ever female manager of Simpsons. But her path to success hasn’t been straightforward, since she was diagnosed with cancer 12 months ago.

Also this week, in the hotel’s world famous American bar, barrister Louis Flannery and a Marilyn Monroe lookalike – both regular customers – take their dates for a romantic drink.

About The Savoy

“People come to The Savoy to be entertained, to be wowed, to feel luxury and to feel special. When I was being trained they would hit you, throw things at you… it wouldn’t be appropriate to do things like that now.” Sean, Head Butler at The Savoy

Filled with glamour, elegance, history and character and truly the first luxury hotel in Britain, The Savoy has sat alongside the River Thames for over 130 years. It has hosted rock stars and royalty, Oscar winners and prime ministers and is now opening its famous revolving doors to the cameras in this brand new series for ITV.

Filmed over the most dramatic period of the hotel’s history – from the incredibly busy winter season to its devastating coronavirus shutdown – the series will give viewers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of those lucky enough to be able to afford this slice of luxury, and those who serve them, as cameras capture the upstairs, downstairs and the most secret of corners.

As a global crisis looms, the series sees the challenges the staff face to continue to make the magic happen with their hard work and attention to detail before the hotel was forced to shut its doors for the first time ever in its history.

This is the first time an iconic hotel has been filmed using an innovative state-of-the-art luxury multi-camera rig, providing unique and intimate access into the intoxicating world of this prestigious location.

This is the story of The Savoy as it has never been seen before.

This show is broadcast on ITV.
