Walking Britain’s Lost Railways – 18 December 2020 – 18/12/2020 – Friday – Channel 5

East Midlands

More than a century later, Rob Bell traces the course of the Great Central Railway, the last major line of the Victorian era and the last main line built before the Channel Tunnel rail link. Rob is taken aback by the scale of demolition and excavation needed to construct this line through the city, starting near Nottingham. Rob catches up with the major project around Loughborough that is now rebuilding bridges and 500 yards of track to link two heritage lines and restore a 20-mile portion of the old route. He also visits the central station of Leicester, once abandoned but now set for a new life as a bowling alley.
